The purely hand-made Chinese lacquer gourd adopts the most representative technique of Xipi (sandalwood skin) lacquer in the Chinese lacquer coating process. Loofah pulp or sponge is used to create an uneven surface when the lacquerware is semi-dry. After it dries, different colored lacquers are applied in layers and then polished. Due to the different heights of the lacquer layers, various patterns can be revealed after polishing, presenting gorgeous colors. As red, yellow and black colors are often used for filling, the texture often resembles that of rhinoceros hide or tiger skin, so it is often referred to as “Xipi” or “tiger skin lacquer”.
The gourd has a homophone of “Fu Lu” in Chinese, symbolizing auspiciousness.
The Chinese lacquer gourd is exquisite and elegant. It can be used to adorn the home, serve as a car decoration, or be carried around. With the auspicious “Fu Lu” ornament by your side, good fortune will accompany you all the way.
